Freddy Adu Leaving Manchester United Trial Early

Tuesday 28 November 2006 @ 8:44 pm

We’ve just gotten wind that Freddy Adu, the teenage soccer phenom will leave his Manchester United Trial a week early.

Freddy Adu was on a two week try-out of sorts with one of the best soccer clubs in the world, Manchester United. He was training with the Manchester United youth academy, aka The Red Devils Youth Academy and impressing a lot of the older players on the team with his skills.

There was recent concern over the physical nature of the English Premier League brought up by both his coach Peter Nowak, and LA Galaxy top man Alexi Lalas. Freddy Adu himself has now come out and talked about the physcial nature of the EPL being to much for his style of play and that he would be better suited to play for Real Madrid.

This leaves the question, with Freddy leaving the Manchester United Trial Early, will he make a stop off in Madrid?

Freddy Adu – Midweek Report From England and Manchester United

Tuesday 28 November 2006 @ 12:45 am

Freddy Adu is in the middle of his 2 week trial with Manchester United across the pond in England. He’s working on solidifying a move to play in the Premiership and become the soccer player that the world has been making him out to be since he was 12 years old.

But some say that moving to England and playing with Manchester United might be the wrong decision for the 17-year-old Freddy Adu.

Peter Nowak, coach of DC United, where Adu currently plays and is under contract says Freddy “needs matches.” He believes Freddy should go to the Dutch League where he can get more matches against better competition.

If Freddy were to make the Manchester United team he would more than likely reside on the development squad for a few years where he may never make it off of. The Manchester team brings in the best players from around the world and to see a young talent get stuck behind players that right now might be better than him would be devastating.

Freddy may never get off the bench and we’ll never get to see his talent blossom.

But then again, he’s a great talent himself and may be able to step right into the starting line-up for Manchester United and play some of the best ball the world has ever seen. I believe Freddy Adu knows what he is doing and knows what he wants and will get to the top of his game the best way he knows how. Playing aginst and with the best.

Debates over Freddy Adu’s move to Europe

Saturday 25 November 2006 @ 8:35 am

Looking for Freddy Adu news around the web? Well we have some top stories for you and where you can find them.

First off, everyone by now knows that Freddy Adu is training with Manchester United for two weeks. With that has brought much debate and talk around the soccer world about Freddy Adu’s future.

First up voicing concern about the young 17-year-old Freddy Adu making the jump to Europe soccer is LA Galaxy top man, Alexi Lalas. He has mentioned Concern for Adu based on his size and location of where he might end up in Europe. Lalas doesn’t want him to get tossed in with the big boys too early and get “swallowed up.”

Also of concern is the MLS and DC United losing their biggest crowd drawing face in Freddy Adu. It’s no secret that the young Adu has basically become the face of the MLS and it’s fight to keep alive. Losing him to the Euorpeans would require the MLS to continue on with someone bigger. Even with the rumors that Beckham may make a trip to the States to play a season or two with the MLS, the leaders are still worried.

What do you think is best for Freddy Adu? I think, as much as I would miss him in the MLS, Freddy Adu needs to go and gain the exposure and play against the competition that Europe can bring. That’s the only way he is going to excel beyond where his soccer skils are today.

Freddy Adu to Workout with Manchester United

Thursday 9 November 2006 @ 11:01 am

TODAYonline just reported that soccer superstar Freddy Adu is on Manchester United’s Radar and will be visiting the team in the near future. This coming just days after D.C. United’s loss in the MLS playoffs.

If Freddy Adu were to go to the Premiership team of Manchester United he would need and exemption from FIFA due to the fact that the young soccer start doesn’t turn 18 until next June. The FIFA rules prevent an international transfer before a player turns 18 years old.

Freddy Adu has wanted to play in Europe and may finally get his chance with one of Europes most prestigious teams. Playing with that kind of competition would surly help turn Adu into the soccer star that everyone has thought of him since he was 12 years old and came to the United States.

It would also mean a change of colors around this blog which has adapted itself to D.C. United colors over the past week.

Freddy Adu Subbed in D.C.’s Loss

Thursday 9 November 2006 @ 10:35 am

Freddy Adu was subbed out of D.C. United’s playoff game against the Revolution early in the second half. By most accounts around the MLS world, D.C. United played a great game, but they were unable to capitalize on their good play.

The Revolution had one shot on goal all night, coming early in the first, and to the surprise of the 19,000+ in attendance, a score. They themselves produced 18 shots on goal but were unable to convert on any of them. Freddy Adu had what looked like the best shot of the night when he poked one towards the upper-left corner and the Rev goalie made an out of his mind stop to prevent the tieing goal.

Then to the surprise of many, after what appeared to be a stellar game for the young Freddy Adu coach Nowak subbed Matias Donnet in the 65th minute for Adu. With Adu out, that changed the pace of the game and the Revolution were able to wind down the clock and come out victorious to move on to the finals.

Although Nowak said he wanted fresh legs in the game and that was the reason for the substitute it came at an unusual time sparking debate over whether the substitution was just a stab at rumors that Freddy Adu might be moving to play in Europe.

Freddy Adu and DC United move on In the MLS Playoffs

Saturday 4 November 2006 @ 9:39 am

Freddy Adu and DC United won their first playoff game 1-0 against the New York Red Bulls and came into their second game looking to easily move on to the second round. However their fate didn’t look too good early in the game.

During the first half of play DC United was sloppy, botching crosses and making bad decisions. But the Red Bulls couldn’t take advantage of the early mistakes, unable to score in the first half. Freddy Adu was once again denied a penalty call as the Red Bull goal keeper tripped him up by his ankles and Adu tapped the ball towards the goal just missing, without a call.

Red Bull Youngster Josmer Altidore scored the first goal of the game with a header to the left corner of the goal to give the game it’s first score. Then late in the game, Christian Gomez scored to give DC United a 1-1 tie in the game but a 2-1 lead on aggregate overall in the series.

DC United held off the Red Bulls for the remaining time to end the game and move on. They play the New England Revolution at 4 p.m. eastern time on Sunday November 5th.
